Neurology is one of the city’s earliest provincial clinical key specialty, also is the class-I key discipline in Lianyungang. It’s the training base of postgraduate students of Jiangsu University, Xuzhou Medical University and Nanjing Medical University. It’s national stroke center, national medical couplet of diagnosis and treatment of high blood pressure, provincial regional stroke center, city cerebrovascular disease diagnosis and treatment center, the national health development planning commission demonstration base of stroke screening, prevention and control, national drug clinical trial institution, national base of resident standardization training. The department of neurology has 108 beds in 2 wards, including 10 in the intensive care unit (NICU), with an annual outpatient volume of more than 60,000, discharge of more than 3,500 patients, and eeg and neuroelectrophysiological examinations of more than 8,000. Currently, there are 12 people with senior titles and 7 with doctor degrees, with strong technical force, including subspecialties as cerebrovascular intervention, epilepsy, neurodegeneration and neuroimmunity. Among them, the data management and clinical research of acute cerebral infarction, arteriovenous thrombolysis, mechanical thrombectomy, stent implantation of cervical vascular stenosis, stroke are among the most advanced in China.

On December 19, 2017, the press conference of "2017 annual ranking of the influence of Chinese hospital science and technology" was held in Beijing. In this ranking, the department of neurology of our hospital ranked the top 100 for the first time, realizing the zero breakthrough of our hospital and even the whole city in this ranking. In the national specialty ranking, the department of neurology of our hospital ranked 87 in the national specialty of neurology with a total score of 38 points. The department of neurology ranks the ninth in the provincial ranking.

On November 22, 2012, academician Wang Longde, former vice minister of the ministry of health and President of the Chinese preventive medical association, came to the hospital to review the establishment work of the hospital of stroke screening and prevention engineering base of the ministry of health in the department of neurology.
