The First People's Hospital of Lianyungang was founded in October 1951. After the hard work of several generations, it has developed into the largest Grade III Class A general hospital in the eastern region of Xuhuai, Xuzhou Medical University Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University Clinical Medical College, Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Clinical Medical College and Nanjing Medical University  Kangda College  First Affiliated  Hospital. During the “13th Five-Year Plan” period, the whole staffs of the Hospital thoroughly studied and carried out the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the thought of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era of Xi Jinping. Gaoxin Campus

The Gaoxin Campus is the largest project invested in people's livelihood by the city and is the "Top Ten People's Livelihood Project" of the city in 2012 since the founding of PRC. The campus covers an area of 300mu, with a construction area of 295000 square meters and 2000 beds, which consists of an emergency building, a hospital building, a medical technology building, a health care center building, a teaching administration and research building and a training center building.

On December 28, 2016, the main body of the Gaoxin Campus was completed, which was officially opened on July 31, 2017, and put into full operation in April 2018. Currently, it has become a super-class modern comprehensive hospital with "six in one" of medical, teaching, research, first aid, preventive health care, rehabilitation, with beautiful environment, high-end facilities, intelligent and convenient conditions.

Tongguan Campus

Tongguan campus was founded in 1951, in 2008, it became Grade 3 Class A General Hospital. The construction area of the campus is 145000 square meters, with 2610 beds, the service population of more than 8 million, consisting of emergency center building, outpatient ward science and education information building, pharmacy building, etc.

After Gaoxin Campus being put into full use, Tongguan campus still serves the people of Lianyungang with its vigorous vitality and new development posture, so that the people of the whole city can enjoy better service.

Guannan campus

Guanan campus is the first people's Hospital of Guanan County, and the only Grade II Class A General Hospital in the County. The hospital was built in 2010, and in April 2015, it was fully entrusted by the Lianyungang City first people's Hospital, which covers an area of 192.7 mu and has a construction area of nearly 120000 square meters, including outpatient medical technology building, ward building, comprehensive service building and infectious disease building, with 1000 beds.

The Development Zone Campus

The development zone campus is located on the north side of Changwei Road, Lianyungang Economic and Technological Development Zone, and on the west side of Huanhu Road. The total construction area of the Hospital is about 160,000 square meters and 1,000 beds are planned. It adopts the development mode of “small comprehensive, large specialized disciplines, medical and health care”, and builds into a modern hospital integrating medical treatment, rehabilitation care, teaching, scientific research and preventive health care. Moreover, the Hospital will give full play to the system innovation advantage of the pilot free trade zone, connect the international best medical resources, and promote the medical service level of the zone to achieve a big leap, great promotion as well as successful verification.

Four specialized hospitals

Lianyungang Stomatology Hospital

In 2011, Lianyungang Stomatology Hospital was upgraded from the Department of Stomatology of the First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang, which is the first public specialized stomatology hospital in the city, is the designated surgery hospital of "Smile Train Action" in the United States, and it is the medical, teaching and research center of Stomatology, and is also responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of oral difficult cases and the further training of Stomatologists in the region and surrounding areas.

Lianyungang Children's Hospital

The pediatrics department of the First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang was founded by Liu Yilin, founder of the hospital and doctor of pediatrics in Germany, and upgraded to Lianyungang Children's Hospital in 2013, which is the city's first public professional children's hospital, and which has become a  special hospital integrating children's medical care, health care, prevention, teaching, and scientific research. In 2014, it successfully passed the Grade II Class A special hospital evaluation, and was approved as the independent specialized hospital in 2017.

Lianyungang Brain Hospital

In 2014, the Lianyungang Brain Hospital relying on the comprehensive strength of the First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang was formally established, which is a modern specialized hospital characterized by the diagnosis and treatment of nervous system diseases and the rehabilitation of nervous system. In addition, it is the first public brain hospital in our city with a doctorate training center and a provincial neuroscience center and it makes great efforts for the development of brain science in our city.

Lianyungang Cardiovascular Disease Hospital

Lianyungang Cardiovascular Disease Hospital was formally established in 2016, relying on the advantages of Department of Cardiology, Cardiology surgery, Vascular surgery and so on in the First People’s Hospital of Lianyungang, which is the center of medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and quality control in the field of cardiovascular diseases in our city.

Talents and Disciplines

The Hospital vigorously implements the strategy of “empowering the Hospital by talents”, carries out the project of “introduction of knowledge by talents”, and builds the city's health talent heights. The Hospital now has 2,802 staff, including 2,682 professional and technical personnel, 598 personnel with title of a senior professional post, 745 personnel with intermediate professional title, 150 doctorates (including doctoral students), 514 masters, 20 experts with special subsidies from governments at all levels (10 experts with special allowances from the State Council), 1 national outstanding clinical talent of traditional Chinese medicine, and 3 young and middle-aged experts who have made outstanding contributions to the province. There are 27 provincial “333 project” training talents, 15 provincial six-talent-peak funding talents, and 144 city “521 project” training talents.

The Hospital aims at building the provincial-level clinical key specialty groups. Among them 13 specialized disciplines were approved provincial-level clinical key specialty, 6 disciplines were selected as municipal “the project of science and education powering the health care” medical key discipline, 50 specialized disciplines were rated as municipal clinical key specialty, and 5 specialties were approved city-level specialized diagnosis and treatment center. Neurosurgery department was selected as a medical innovation team of joint construction of provinces and cities. Cardiology and neurology departments were selected as the top 100 influential science and technology specialists in Chinese hospitals in 2017 (ranked 68 and 87, respectively), while neurosurgery and urology departments entered the top 30 in the hospital rankings of Alibi National Hospitals in 2018 (ranked 18 and 26). The Hospital has passed the review and evaluation of the demonstration unit of Chinese medicine work in the national general hospital, and the inspection division passed the ISO15189 review and accreditation of China National Accreditation Committee (CNAC).

Five academician team workstations

In order to actively respond to the call of the Municipal Committee and the Municipal Government for "high quality development and first arrival even started latest", the Hospital has actively promoted all-round cooperation in medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and personnel training with the leading academicians' expert team and famous doctors both in and out of the province, and has set up five academician team workstations and five famous medical studios to effectively improve the Hospital's discipline construction level and scientific research innovation ability, the relevant specialist's level of diagnosis and treatment and the ability of medical service, so that the city and the surrounding people can get the top-level expert's medical services and the Hospital can better benefit the people.

Advanced equipment

The Hospital initially introduced Siemens Biograph mCT Flow 64 PET/ CT in Jiangsu Province. The PET/ CT of this type represents the international advanced level, its greatest advantage is that the patient's whole body image can be obtained by one-time imaging, and the patient's whole body condition can be learned about well at a glance, so as to make the clinician formulate the more accurate diagnosis and treatment schemes aiming at the malignant tumor and other systemic diseases. It marks that the Hospital is in the domestic and provincial leading position in the accurate diagnosis of the tumor and cardio-cerebrovascular disease.

The Hospital aims to train high-quality medical talents, centralized by improving the quality of teaching, and the Hospital vigorously strengthens the construction of educational platform, and currently, there are 3 doctoral program training majors, 32 master program training majors, 3 doctor tutors (6 person-time), 92 master tutors (124 person-time), 33 teaching and research rooms, 37 professors, 78 associate professors, as well as 437 lecturers, now the Hospital is the standardized training base of national resident doctor, the national standardized training base for general practitioners and the provincial demonstration base for general practitioners and the standardized training base for resident doctors in Jiangsu Province.

Cooperation and exchange

While deepening cooperation with well-known universities, large-scale enterprises and scientific research institutes in China, the Hospital has carried out an in-depth international development strategy, adhered to a higher level of “introduction” and “going out” at a greater pace, strengthened exchanges and cooperation with well-known medical institutions in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Israel, Singapore and other countries, and effectively promoted the quality of talents, and also improved the technical level and management connotation.

In recent years, the Hospital has organized a total of 140 people to study abroad, received 96 foreign experts to conduct academic exchanges and technical guidance, and moreover, the Hospital was appraised “Demonstration Unit of Introducing Foreign Intellectuals in Jiangsu Province”.

Internet Hospital

In August 2019, the Hospital obtained the first batch of Internet Hospital Operating License in Jiangsu province, and established a new mode of diagnosis and treatment which includes online consultation, health management, remote medical treatment and other online medical services, and is highly integrated with online medical services such as appointment registration, appointment check, online payment and report inquiry. In combination with the medical sub-base to benefit the people and the medical assistance along the “Belt and Road Initiatives”, it normally provides the long-distance medical services with the medical consortium member units, Xinjiang Horgos People's Hospital and Shaanxi Jiaxian People's Hospital, maps the Internet Hospital service to the village health stations, creates a base service circle to benefit the people, and helps the construction of a healthy China.
